SAN LUIS OBISPO UNITY BAR
Our organization is composed of current and former members of the judiciary, local practicing attorneys, and law students.
San Luis Obispo Unity Bar members coach middle and high school Mock Trial students and facilitate a speaker series focused on building resiliency in the legal profession. They have also mentored first-generation law students at San Luis Obispo College of Law and Berkeley Law, conducted listening sessions with Berkeley Law students, and organized opportunities for law students to learn about diverse careers in the law.
Law students, attorneys, and judicial officers are invited to email info@slounitybar.com to apply to be matched with a mentor.
The San Luis Obispo Unity Bar recommends individuals interested in learning more about the California judiciary and the judicial selection and election processes visit the California Judges Association website here.
In addition, the California State Bar, which is committed to building a diverse pipeline into the legal profession, retention and career advancement, and judicial diversity, has compiled annual demographic reports on judicial candidates, an imposter syndrome toolbox, a guide to becoming a lawyer for high school students and others, tips for completing the application for Superior Court appointment, and resources for law students and new graduates here.
Finally, the Judicial Branch of California has published a video and toolkit, Pathways to Judicial Diversity, to help judges and courts encourage diverse attorneys and students to pursue judicial careers, available here.
Erica Flores Baltodano served as a mentor to attorney Francis Heredia when she was in law school. Ms. Heredia, pictured here when she was sworn in as an attorney, has judicial aspirations and has been involved in SLOUB.
