The SLO Unity Bar supports outreach, education, and mentorship at the K-12, college, law school, and professional level to encourage and elevate groups who have historically been excluded from the bar and bench and continue to face barriers to access.
Our members have provided keynote addresses at statewide bar association meetings, served as panelists at law school events, attended San Luis Obispo County symposium for women of color, and organized law school panels showcasing the trailblazing careers of Central Coast judges and attorneys. In collaboration with the Diversity Coalition of San Luis Obipso and Cuesta College, our members have also participated in "human library" events, where community college students can "check-out" a lawyer or judicial officer from diverse backgrounds and hear their story in 20-minute listening sessions.
